About Us

  • Biography - Nicola Marie was born in Nottinghamshire in 1976.
  • She started dancing at the age of four, going on to study at Elaine Varney, Janet Ashton & Debbie Pegg schools and academies in Nottingham and Lincoln and attaining ‘honours’ at each age group through to sixteen.
  • During her early teens Nicola performed key roles in a number of musical theatre productions including ‘Annie’, ‘Carousel’, Fiddler On The Roof’ and also The D’Oyly Carte production of ‘Yeoman Of The Guard’.
  • At the age of just fourteen she joined a Nottingham theatre group ‘NET’ and was honoured to be cast in the challenging role of the singing narrator in a new musical ‘William Booth’ at the Nottingham Playhouse. [Her name Nicola Harris remains in the original score]
  • At sixteen Nicola pursued her ambitions by studying for a ‘B-tech’ in performing arts at The Nottingham Arts In Education Centre. During this time she was involved in writing songs and choreographing routines for many production shows and she twice performed at The Edinburgh Festival.
  • Upon completion of her course Nicola was awarded a Nottinghamshire County Council grant [of £32,000] to study at one of the UK’s most prestigious stage schools, ‘Laine Theatre Arts’ London.
  • Whilst at ‘Laines’ Nicola studied all aspects of acting, dance and singing but it was renowned vocal coach and singer Nigel Brookes [BBC’s Nigel Brookes Singers] who identified and enhanced Nicola’s unique vocal talent by introducing her to opera.
  • During vacation Nicola applied for seasonal work at ‘Butlins’ in Skegness. However following audition Entertainments Manager Paul Wright offered her a full time position as the resorts principal female vocalist .. an opportunity Nicola realised to be too good to miss! Nicola went on to perform in 12 different shows per week, having learned over 100 songs and a number of complex dance routines in just one month.
  • For three years Nicola worked at the resort. She had her own show produced for her, singing to a live band [‘Carnival Magic’] and dancing with six professional dancers [‘Obsession’] in the most prestigious of venues and to audiences of over 3,500 each night. As Nicola says, “amazing times!”.
  • In 1998 Nicola decided that in order to prevent herself from becoming ‘stale,’ to enhance her experience and to face new challenges she had to move on. At a resort in Great Yarmouth she fronted a new band [‘Images’] and undertook a more interactive role with the audience, learning very quickly how to build rapport and to incorporate appropriate audience participation in to the show.
  • At the end of that year Nicola and the band joined a prestigious North American cruise ship, ‘The Festival Bolero’ and they performed on board as the ship cruised the Caribbean for the next six months. Nicola performed cocktail sets with the band and West End style production shows with the ships’ cast.
  • In 2000 Nicola Marie worked for ‘Bourne Leisure’ touring Haven holiday parks throughout the UK and in doing so she learned the flexibility of working with different house bands at each venue. Towards the end of that year she moved to an Isle of Wight park, ‘Hart Court Sands’ where she again performed with a live band but at this venue to an older audience, necessitating a repertoire in keeping with ballroom and sequence dancing.
  • In 2001 Nicola rejoined ‘Butlins’ but this time at their Minehead resort. At that time Nicola and two friends formed an all girl trio ‘Breathless’ and their extremely successful high energy show went on to tour the Butlins resorts around the UK throughout 2002.
  • 2002 also saw Nicola performing solo at a number of nightclubs including the ‘Jumpin Jacks’ chain. Nicola had always sung live and danced at the same time but at these clubs she really ‘upped the anti’ producing invigorating shows which would form the basis to her next professional projects.
  • During 2003 Nicola worked hard to formulate elaborate shows which were tributes to her favourite artists, firstly Shania Twain [Nicola is a huge fan of modern country music] and then Madonna. Each show was an accurate depiction, both physically [authentic costumes] and vocally of the original artist. Her shows received excellent critical acclaim from the outset as she performed at holiday parks, hotels and corporate events throughout the UK.
  • Nicola has sung very meaningful songs in a number of emotional settings including weddings, civil ceremonies and even funerals.
In 2004 Nicola had the great pleasure to be invited by his family, to sing at a memorial for the late Brian Clough. Nicola sang Brian's favourite songs for his family, friends and a host of football players who had worked for him.
  • In 2006, responding to demand from the industry Nicola formed a show, incorporating dancers, which was a tribute to the music of the 1980s called ‘80s Girls Wanna Have Fun!’. The show proved to be a huge success, particularly at holiday resorts but also at themed party nights within major hotels chains including the Hilton, Ramada and Thistle groups.
  • In 2007 Nicola started to take her shows abroad as she performed in a number of countries including Dubai, Corfu, Turkey, Germany and Holland.
  • 2008 saw Nicola evolve to meet demand once more. Friends had, for some time, compared Nicola’s rich vocal tones to an up and coming very talented singer and she was urged to expand her repertoire to include her .. Amy Winehouse. Performing either solo, with backing singers or the full show with a magnificent 9 piece band Nicola was immediately a huge hit. The band performed at many prestigious venues and corporate events but headlining the ‘Matthew Street Festival’ in Liverpool was a particular high for Nicola and the team as the 45,000 bank holiday audience bounced along to their beat.
  • The success of the Amy show saw Nicola contracted to the Thomson Holiday company’s new flag ship ‘Sensatori’ hotels and she performed in Crete throughout 2008 and 2009 and in Mexico also in 2009.
  • Nicola has performed at many celebrity parties and events but it is the 40th birthday of actress Vicky Entwistle [Coronation Street’s Janice Battersby] in 2009 that stands out to her because the occasion, for a truly lovely lady, was most enjoyable.
  • More private functions and parties followed, including events at Bolton Wanderers, Aston Villa and Blackpool Town football clubs.
  • In 2010 the authenticity of Nicola’s portrayal of Amw Winehouse was rewarded when she was invited to appear on a special edition of BBC’s ‘The Weakest Link’. One word .. Hilarious!
  • Also in 2010 Nicola was told by a friend, “you are the only person crazy enough to do a tribute to her Nicola” and the next challenge was set .. Nicola’s tribute to Lady Gaga was born.
  • This was a truly spectacular, theatrical show with amazing dancers and elaborate costumes. The Matthew Street Festival was another highlight but an amazing year was culminated by a glamorous private 40th birthday party for an American business tycoon held at ‘The Dorchester Hotel’ in London.
  • 2011 was a fabulous year for Nicola a she continued to work at Thomson Sensatori Hotels in Tenerife and Egypt. She also performed at huge festivals in Germany and Holland. Private parties and corporate events were regular events for Nicola but another career highlight was performing onboard the magnificent yatch ‘Betty Davies’ for a Dutch banker’s birthday.
  • 2012 has seen no let up in the busy schedule Nicola has recently undertaken. Lady Gaga, Amy Winehouse and Madonna tribute shows have been on going at venues around the UK and Europe. But once again Nicola has looked to evolve and develop.
  • Nicola has always had a passion for modern country music and in May of this year she performed at various venues in Nashville including the famous ‘Tootsies’ bar where she was truly honoured to sing with their house band.
  • Recently Nicola has sought to return to a style of singing she describes as “modern lounge .. swing with a twist”. In this show she performs many modern chart hits but in a laid back new jazz style. The show has already proven popular at restaurants and art galleries [including a Todd White event] and has led to her meeting her artist idol Fabian Perez.
  • 2012 has also been for Nicola, the year of X factor. Leaving tributes strictly to one side Nicola performed on the show and was highly successful in getting to the ‘Judges Houses’ stage of the competition. [her supporters and many others have said she deserved to go much further .. but .. well we’ll never know why not]
